About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Bundesliga encounter, 1. FC Köln edged past VfL Wolfsburg with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a decisive goal from Linton Maina (GAP -1.0%) in the 29th minute. This result was somewhat unexpected, as pre-match odds slightly favored Wolfsburg, who have been in decent form recently. The match's only goal came from a well-executed move by Köln, with Maina capitalizing on a defensive lapse to slot the ball past Kamil Grabara (GAP -1.1%). Despite Wolfsburg's efforts to equalize, they were unable to break down a resolute Köln defense, marshaled effectively by Marvin Schwabe (GAP +0.0%) in goal. Tactically, Köln's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's current form. In contrast, Wolfsburg's head coach opted for a more dynamic approach, making several substitutions throughout the game, including the introduction of Aaron Zehnter, Jesper Grænge Lindstrøm, and Kento Shiogai. However, these changes did not yield the desired impact, as Wolfsburg struggled to create clear-cut chances. Key players for Wolfsburg included Maximilian Arnold (GAP +1.5%), who tried to orchestrate play from midfield, but found his efforts stifled by Köln's disciplined setup. Meanwhile, Kristoffer Lund Hansen (GAP +1.7%) was instrumental for Köln, contributing both defensively and in transition. This victory propels 1. FC Köln further up the Bundesliga table, providing them with much-needed momentum as they aim to secure a mid-table finish. For Wolfsburg, the defeat is a setback, but they remain in contention for a European spot, needing to regroup and address their attacking inefficiencies. Post-match reactions highlighted the resilience of Köln's performance, with fans praising the team's defensive solidity and Maina's decisive contribution. As the season progresses, both teams will look to build on their respective strengths to achieve their season objectives.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
